Classifying Water Damage and its Destruction
Action Extraction is a proud to date member of the (IICRC) Institute of Inspection Cleaning & Restoration. According to the IICRC Standard and Reference Guide S-500 for Professional Water Damage Restoration, there are four classes of water damage. Action Extraction specializes in all 4 types of water damage and our entire employee base is certified as well, we are a certified firm. To be a certified firm your company must comply with continuing education and passing accredited courses on restoration.
The 4 Primary Classifications of Water Damage
Class 1 Water Damage is the least amount of water, absorption and evaporation. Water presence is affecting only a small portion of a room or area. Little or no wet carpet or padding exist and the mitigation of such an environment is relatively easy to manage.
Examples of this type of water damage would include a sink overflow of a small amount of water, a washing machine that discharges a small amount of water in a room, water that spills over a tub for a short time or a sump pump that fails and allows just several gallons of water to come up through a drain.
Class 2 involves a large amount of water, absorption and evaporation. Its presence has affected at least an entire room of carpet and pad. Water has wicked up walls less than 24 inches. There is moisture remaining in structural materials and substructure soil.
Examples of this type of water damage would be a sump pump failure that floods a basement, a broken hot water heater that allows multiple rooms to be affected or a broken water pipe that deluges for a long enough time to flood a substantial area allowing water to come into contact with dry wall or other absorbent building materials.
Class 3 involves the greatest amount of water, absorption and evaporation. Water may have come from overhead. Ceilings, walls, insulation, carpet, pad and sub-floor in virtually all of the entire area are saturated.
Examples of this type of water damage occur when a frozen pipe in an upstairs bathroom burst and runs for hours or days before being discovered, a dish washer malfunctions and continues to allow water to run unabated for hours or days before it is discovered or a broken water supply line breaks allowing water to run for hours or days before it is discovered.
Class 4 relates to specialty drying situations when materials with very low permeance such as hardwood flooring become wet. This type of material requires more than just air movement and humidity control to facilitate drying. This type of water damage will require specialty technology drying systems that not all Macomb county water damage companies offer. Other materials that require specialty drying procedures are plaster, brick, concrete and stone. These materials have deep pockets of saturation, which require very low specific humidity. These types of losses may require longer drying times and special methods.
What You Should Know About Water Damage and Mold in Your Home
When property sustains an untreated water damage issue, it will most likely become a mold and mildew problem in time. Indoor moisture that climbs high and stays high as well will result in a mold problem in short order. When water damage mitigation is incorrectly done, hidden moisture will remain in materials like dry wall and wood producing mold inside the walls and building structures.
Action Extraction has many years of experience in resolving mold issues in residential and commercial properties. Our multi-step process includes detection, evaluation, testing and complete cleanup. Call today and we can provide a free evaluation of your property.

There are severe health dangers associated with sewage water because it contains elevated levels of pathogenic and microscopic living organisms. It is highly risky to manage the detailed cleanup that is involved in removing these germs from the indoor environment. The air that occupants are breathing can be very injurious to health and in many cases occupants need to vacate the premises till cleanup and restoration are complete. If you have a home that is experiencing Macomb county water damage from sewage we specialize in high risk restoration.

Frozen, Burst, and Broken water Pipes
Macomb county water damage cleanup is often required in the winter months due to frozen water pipes and frozen water lines. When property is left unoccupied in the winter without supervision the heat can fail without anyone knowing. As temperatures fall the water in the water pipes are at risk of freezing and breaking.
Some of the most devastating water damage we have seen was when frozen water pipes in the attic burst. When this happens water will aggressively run for days deluging to the rooms below. Many hundreds of gallons of water can completely devastate a furnished home.

Macomb County Water Damage for Basement Flooding
Basement flooding can damage furniture, dry wall, moldings and carpeting. Often the damages go unnoticed for days because basements are not occupied each day. When homeowners finally go down the stairs to discover the devastation, the damage is done. If the water has been in the basement for over 3 days there could be the start of mold growth to mitigate along with the water.
We have specialized in flooded basement cleanup for over 30 years and will remove all water, dry and sanitize all materials and replace and repair any permanently damaged materials. Call today for our free inspection and evaluation.
